Freedom from Anxiety: a journal writing exercise

Nothing is more difficult, and therefore more precious, than to be able to decide. ~Napoleon Bonaparte

I have a few questions for your journal writing today:

1. What would freedom from anxiety mean to you?

2. Do you feel like you are “stuck” with anxiety? If so, why is that?

3. If you decided here and now to be free from anxiety, would you want to make that commitment (even if you were not yet sure exactly what to do)?

Go ahead and explore, and just write.

I did this exercise. Later on in my next post I will share with you some insights I gathered from my writing…

Have a blessed day!

What does fortune mean to you? What makes you feel fortunate? A journal writing session

Your fortune is not something to find but to unfold.
~Eric Butterworth

This evening’s journal writing session is about fortune: the idea of finding, having, or discovering our fortune and also what makes us feel fortunate.

I encourage you to sit in a quiet place and meditate for a few minutes before writing. Visualize what “fortune” means to you. What does being fortunate mean to you?

When you are ready to, open your eyes and write down anything that comes to mind. Do not censor yourself. Just write.

Enjoy this exercise. You may find it interesting what comes out…

In peace,

Debra

What are some bright spots in your life? a morning journal writing exercise

In a recent post we talked about ways to be more confident. One of them was playing and focusing on our strengths. For this morning’s meditation and journal writing time I’d like you to think about all the “bright spots” in your life. Make a list of anything in or about your life that gives you a boost.

My list of bright spots would look something like this:

1. My patient, loving husband

2. My comfortable bed.

3. My really good coffee.

5. I have a great laptop computer that enables me to create and communicate at my convenience.

6. I am healthy.

7. I am a good teacher.

8. I have a date with my hubby at one of our favorite restaurants tonight.

9. I live in beautiful Florida, just blocks from a gorgeous beach and the Atlantic ocean.

10. The Warm Milk Journal and all of my new friends I have made from this project.

There are more of course, but just listing these few have made me feel pretty good, already. What a wonderful start to the day.

Have a blessedly bright day,

Debra

It’s not quite the weekend yet but if we are finding ourselves fatigued as the week wears on, we just may need a boost of fun in our routine.

In your journal write down as many things as you can think of that sound fun to you. Don’t judge or edit, just write the list….

A few things that come to my mind right away are:

  1. dancing
  2. going out for a good beer and laughing with friends
  3. visiting a new town that’s not too far from my hometown such as Savannah, Georgia
  4. watching a comedy
  5. buying some new clothes!

Your turn : )

What is your heart telling you? Ten writing prompts for this morning

“As long as you are trying to be something other than what you actually are, your mind wears itself out”

~J. Krishnamurti

This morning as you are having your quiet wake up time, take a few deep breaths in and out. Sit and be still. Our hearts have an intelligence of their own if  we are wise enough to listen.

Here are some questions for your journals or some things to think about today:

  1. Describe an ideal day for yourself.
  2. When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
  3. How do you feel when you walk into your work place?
  4. How do you feel when you walk into your house or apartment?
  5. What relationships mean the most to you?
  6. Make a list of things that you frequently find yourself wanting to do “someday” when you have the time, money, etc.
  7. Describe situations when you feel the most at peace and secure with yourself.
  8. Describe situations when your heart tightens and you feel tense.
  9. Imagine an ideal place to visit to meditate. It could be a sitting on a hilltop, being in the desert, the beach, wherever.Spend some time in that place and see what happens.
  10. If you could be anybody for a day, who would it be? What would your day be like?

Have a blessed day,

What am I here for? A journal writing exercise.

It’s quiet, take  care of yourself time. Get out your coffee or tea and journal. Sit and breathe for a few minutes. Clear your mind. One technique that really helps me center quickly is to ask myself: What will my next thought be? Then just wait (this idea I learned from Eckhart Tolle’s The Power of Now). It really works. Another meditation technique I like when I don’t have a lot of time is simply closing my eyes and going through the colors of the rainbow.

Now that you are centered, it is time to write. This session is going to answer the question : “What am I here for?”.

That’s it. I encourage you to not censor yourself. Just write down as much as comes out. It could come out as a long list of quickly jotted down ideas or a slowly written essay, depending on your mood.

I don’t have much time and I want to just see what will come out if I write quickly without thinking too much.

This is how mine would look right now.

I Am here for:

  1. Loving myself and others
  2. creating
  3. just being here and enjoying life
  4. nurture others including myself
  5. laughter
  6. to learn many painful lessons
  7. good work
  8. to have fun
  9. to write
  10. express myself
  11. be part of nature
  12. follow what is in my heart
  13. be a mom
  14. be a teacher
  15. be a wife
  16. be a friend
  17. be a sister
  18. be a daughter
  19. run my own business
  20. trust and be part of something bigger than myself (God, the Divine, the Universe etc.)

I could continue but it is now your turn…

Have a blessed day.

For this morning, a journal writing session

A journal writing session for today:

  1. What intention do you want to set for your day? Starting your day with a positive intention can get your day off to a great start. Write at least one intention down. Write with feeling and excited anticipation. This is going to be a great day. You just know it.
  2. Write three things you are thankful for right now.
  3. Write a prayer of thanks for your job (even if you think you hate it). If you are currently not employed, write a prayer of thanks for your ideal job as if you have it now.
  4. Smile. Breathe. You are alive. Write down something you are going to do to help someone today.
  5. Write a list of things you have always wanted to do but never find the time for. Circle one and today think about doing that thing, whatever it is.

Have a blessed day,

Morning journal writing session

One gift we can give ourselves is the gift of being quiet and still. Just be. If we can get and stay in that peaceful place even for a few minutes, it will have a positive effect on our day.

This morning, before the busy-ness of the day begins, grant yourself this time. This is a great time to write in our journals. When we get quiet and listen: listen to our own hearts, our own intuition, God, the universe etc. – it can be amazing what surfaces.

Here are a few ideas for your journal writing this morning:

  1. Who in your life loves you and supports you unconditionally? Write their names down. As you write their names send love and gratitude their way.
  2. If there is someone in your life who is challenging you or you are worried about, write their names down.  As you write their names send love and healing thoughts their way. These people need your blessings more than anybody.
  3. Think of people who are successful in their lives. What makes them successful? Write these names down and their successful qualities. Can one of these people serve as a mentor to you?

Be sure to breathe and set a positive intention for your day.

Have a great one!
