This Spring I’m taking my yoga practice outdoors: getting in touch with the natural world.

Something I have done lately is take my yoga practice outdoors. I am fortunate enough to live near the beach and it is so wonderful to do my stretches and poses on the sand looking out onto the ocean with the sound of the waves all around me…

We also have some lovely parks nearby with old Florida oak trees which are enchanting to be around.

There is always Music amongst the trees in the Garden, but our hearts must be very quiet to hear it. ~Minnie Aumonier

In the evening, I am even beginning to do more movement, meditating, and writing outdoors on our back patio. It is a cozy space surrounded by my gardens, bird feeders, large pine and palm trees, and a view of our community’s small but sparkling pond.

Whether you practice yoga or not, I encourage you to enjoy the new Spring season by getting outside today, even if for a few minutes. It will do your body and spirit a lot of good (and probably help you sleep better tonight to boot)!

A neat book I picked up at an Asheville, North Carolina bookstore last spring (during our honeymoon) is: Tree Yoga A Workbook by Satya Singh and Fred Hageneder.

If you haven’t yet, see Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax . My daughter and I saw it in the theater recently and it has a wonderful message about the importance of appreciating and nurturing trees and the natural world.

In peace,

Debra
