the blues

When you are feeling a little blue, remember: “This too shall pass”

This too shall pass

Realistically, we can’t be happy all of the time. Like the clouds sailing by in the sky or the oceans tides…

feelings, moods, and emotions come and go… they just do. That is part of life.

We can save ourselves a lot of trouble if we don’t get too attached or identify with a passing bad mood or feeling we are experiencing at the moment.

If you are feeling blue, sad, melancholy… or just feel down, go ahead and give yourself permission to:
1. sigh….
2. cry….
3. lie down and shut the world out for a little while…

Know that in time this feeling will pass. It always does.

When I am feeling this way I find it helps me to do some of these things:

1. Cry in my husbands arms.
2. Write in my journal
3. Take a bath
4. Take a nap
5. Pour a glass of wine and Twitter or Facebook or..
6. Put on some nice jazz music and cook a nice dinner for my family
7. Take a walk outside
8. Read something very light like a magazine
9. Hug and listen to my daughter talk about her day…
10. Just breathe.

The storm cloud will pass, and when it does… enjoy!

In peace,

Debra

Got the blues? Dealing with bouts of sadness.

Sadness can come on all of a sudden. An event happens to upset you. You are disappointed about something. Someone has hurt you.

Or sadness can come on as a tide of melancholy, causing you to feel blue but not sure exactly why.

For women, our hormones can certainly come into play with our emotional states.

Being sad and upset from time to time is part of the human condition. Most of the time if we don’t attach too much to our feelings we can just wait it out and the sadness will pass on its own- like drifting storm clouds in the sky.

If you find yourself down for whatever reason, here are some ideas to support you:

  1. You are never alone.
  2. Reach out to a loved one, friend, colleague, or neighbor.
  3. Get out and get moving. Just a bike ride or walk can be just what we need to feel good again.
  4. Help someone else. Helping others promotes a cheerful mood. It feels good to be useful to another and it gets us out of ourselves a bit (which can be a good thing).
  5. Get busy
  6. Plan a trip or party. Anticipating and planning for a fun event boosts our spirits and endorphins.
  7. Write
  8. Read an uplifting book
  9. Watch a funny, romantic, or suspenseful movie
  10. Attend a cultural event such as a play or music concert
  11. Attend an inspirational service at a community church
  12. Go to a yoga, fitness, or meditation class.
  13. Get online and connect with others
  14. Please do consult with your doctor if you find yourself depressed a lot. There are effective treatments out there for help with depression and anxiety.

I wish you all a beautiful day.
