Good morning. Thank you for this new day. I am excited by much these days.
Thank you for all of the people in my life and the doors that continue to open as I seek to better myself and my life.
May I be guided by your loving spirit and know that peace reigns in my heart.
Please help me to have a clear head when in stress or feel excited.
May I remain centered so that I can be the most help to others and myself.
Thank you for being there when I am scared and when I feel unsure.
The day is over and sleep is near.
I am thankful for this day.
Thank you for the smiles I received,
the attentive children in my classroom,
the companionship of my family this evening.
I am excited about the new people and opportunities that are
presenting themselves to me.
This chapter is an exciting one.
I so appreciate my life.
Please send your love, guidance, and healing to those out there who feel:
As I begin this new day, I wish to thank you for a good night sleep.
I feel refreshed and alive.
Thank you also for the possibilities and opportunities that are there for me today and every day when
I choose to open my eyes and my heart.
Thank you for looking out for me last night. I am safe. My family is safe. I thank you.
I appreciate so many things right now such as this quiet time I have this morning, my warm cup of coffee, and the comfort of my plush couch
and my favorite bathrobe I have on.
I know in just a short while I will be out there in the world again giving the tasks of the day my all.
Please help me to keep in sight the important things:
taking care of myself and family, being a strong and positive leader to my young students, and an encouraging face for someone who meets me in the hallway or on the street.
May I never get so caught up in the fatigue of the day that I take for granted this beautiful thing that is my life.
Thank you for this day. I feel blessed to sit comfortably in my cozy home, surrounded by those I love…
On this day, please help me to see:
the good in people’s hearts and actions,
the natural beauty right in my own backyard.
Please help me to hear
my daughter’s voice when she needs me to really listen to her,
and help me to continue the good work that I have begun even though
I doubt myself from time to time.
Thank you for helping me to grow.
Thank you for helping me to learn.
Thank you for helping me build my courage,
and to find and use my voice that has always been there…
This is a wonderful time in my life and I am blessed!
When I was a child we learned a prayer that we sang, giving thanks to God. It went something like this:
Baruch atah Adonai, Thank you God!
Thank you for my mommy, thank you for my dad-
Thank you for my……
I can hear the tune in my head but I don’t remember the rest of the words. Essentially, we sang a list of things that we were thankful for. We sang about the blessings in our life. We acknowledged and thanked God for them.
My childhood religion happened to be Reformed Judaism. I am sure that no matter what religious background you were brought up in, you may remember something from your childhood too? A bedtime prayer perhaps? Giving thanks at the dinner table?
The practice of gratitude is so important and powerful. I believe life just works better when we come from a place of thanks and we are mindful of our blessings. Life is so rich! Let’s be thankful for each day.
I encourage us today during our quiet reflective times to express a prayer of thanks to God, the Universe, or whatever spiritually works for you. In your journals, you can write down a list of things you are thankful for. You can think of them during a meditation or while taking a walk. You can sing them to a tune like I did as a child.
The feeling of gratitude can show up in the way you go about your day today: your stride, how much you smile at others, how kind you are to other drivers on the highway etc.
I feel so blessed and thankful for many things on this morning.
Baruch Atah Adonai, Thank You God!

I wrote recently about starting a prayer journal. Mornings and evenings are natural times to connect with our spiritual lives.
Some ideas : think about what you are thankful for, what you would like guidance for, and focus on peace and love.
What a gift today was and God willing, we will wake up to another day.
My entry would look something like this:
Thank you for this blessed day. This was a day filled with sunshine, friendly neighbors I enjoyed visiting with at the pool, squirrels and birds visiting the new garden bed I planted, a tired but very happy twelve year old daughter just returning home from a week long Girl Scout camp experience, a good lasagna dinner, and many affectionate and loving moments with my partner John throughout the day. Today was a good day, God, and I thank you for it.
May this evening continue to be peaceful and I look forward to a fresh new day tomorrow.
Good night and sweet dreams,
