Sleepy time prayer

Sleep is approaching me
or I am approaching sleep

A time to rest is near
and I am ready to let go.

Thank you, God for this day.

This has been a day of goodbyes and nice to meet yous;
A day of endings and beginnings.

Thank you for the day and I welcome a respite from it all:

sleep you may take me now for a bit

I need to rest and renew…

In the morning I will be ready

to begin a new chapter in

my life.

Good night

Peacefully asleep but still awake in my dreams: a bedtime verse

To sleep is all well and good

it is perfectly wonderful, in fact.

To sleep and slumber, not

a care left in the world-

For the day is finished

All that is left is the peace

of sleep.

Sleep,

drifting losing consciousness but

still awake in my dreams.

Soft Sleep: a bedtime verse

Soft sleep gently coming to take me into calm dreamy space.

I welcome the rest, the peace that comes

when all is still

all is quiet

and well,

just as it should be.

A safe cocoon I’m in

safe and secure

warm and cozy

and loved.

There are no worries

or concerns.

No tasks or trouble

of any kind.

Only sleep. Drifting floating peace.

Quiet being.

The Evening Cocoon: a bedtime verse

Heavy are my eyelids

Fatigued is my body

I am tired but in a good way.

I worked hard and gave the day

my all.

Now the evening has come

to sweep and nestle me away from

the travails of the day

and cocoon me into

a quiet,

soft,

dark,

and peaceful

space

where dreams float in and

cares sail out-

and body and mind recharge

effortlessly.

When the morning comes, I

know I will awaken

with fresh eyes and

a rested body-

Ready to give the world my best

once again.

When you’re just too jazzed to sleep: Five ideas to get through the day when you’re sleep deprived

Every now and then there are just nights when you can’t sleep. the usual reasons for insomnia are not applying: you did not drink caffeine, you are not upset or anxious, you are healthy, you are physically comfortable, your partner is being good and not snoring, etc. – and yet, you can’t sleep. Your brain is just wired for whatever reason and won’t shut down.

I had one of those nights last night. Yesterday me and my fiance did a lot of brainstorming about our wedding coming up in March and some business ideas for me. I have a lot going on in my life (mostly good things) and I am excited. Usually I put in such a full day that I have no problem going to sleep. Not last night.

I suppose I could have meditated and worked harder at slowing my mind down but the truth is I was enjoying thinking about all of these wonderful things I am planning for my life. The result: not a lot of sleep.

I am fortunate today for I am a teacher and I have the day off from work today. This has happened to me before when I have had to suck it up and drag myself to work no matter how bad I was feeling.

If you ever have one of these sleepless nights and you don’t have the luxury of sleeping in the next day, what do you do?

Here’s my list of five ideas:

  1. Don’t beat yourself up. So you had one sleepless night. It is not the end of the world. You will most likely sleep great tonight.
  2. Coffee helps ( a lot!)
  3. If you can sneak in a little power cat nap during your day that would be great.
  4. Make yourself smile even if you feel like you know what. We can trick ourselves into feeling better than we do.
  5. Find something about your job or plans for the day that engages you. The more you can focus on a task or something interesting, the less you will be thinking about how tired you feel- and perhaps the day will go by that much quicker too.

That’s it. Good luck. You will get through your day, sleep much better tonight, and wake up tomorrow much more fresh.

Sleep, I know you are coming

Sleep. Sleep. I know you are coming soon.

Sleep. Sleep. Don’t elude me tonight.

Caress me and hold me in your healing peace.

Sleep. Sleep. I know you are coming.

Come forth gently and permit me to release into your care.

May you nurture me through the night so that

I awake in the morning

Fresh and ready for the day.
