Taking a break from the busy-ness

I am thankful for a chance to pause for a moment,

and take a break from the strain of being “on” all day…

If your business has become too much busy-ness,

your home and holiday season too much hustle bustle…

I invite you to give yourself a break!

Slow down, if just for a few moments.

Make that tea (or pour that glass of wine), and breathe.

Write

Sit

Take a walk outside.

If we are so busy doing and giving, there is not much left of us at the end of a day or week.

So stop.

Breath.

Take that break.

Take rest; a field that has rested gives a bountiful crop. ~Ovid

STOP

Once in a while during the busy-ness of this holiday season, remember to stop.

Stop and BE

Stop and SEE

Stop and LISTEN

Have a very blesed day.

Evening

Evening,

you are here once more.

Thank you for your arrival.

In times of stress, you comfort me with your dark and silence.

In times of celebration you delight me with your lights and time with loved ones.

Evening, thank you for being there. Without you I would not have this space of rest from my hectic work life and I

would not have this time to recharge.

When day is done, and clouds are low, And flowers are honey-dew, And Hesper’s lamp begins to glow Along the western blue; And homeward wing the turtle-doves, Then comes the hour the poet loves. ~ George Croly

What will you do with this gift? This evening?

A blessed night to all,

Debra

“Letting it be” tonight for peace and a good night sleep

Play this while you read this post (Beatles “Let It Be“)

I can push and push,
keep trying, harder and harder.

I can put enormous pressure on myself.

I can set very high expectations for myself and others….

Or,

I can ,as the old Beatles song puts it, “let it be”, knowing that

all good things will happen when they are supposed to, at my-ease (instead of dis-ease)

Oh to be ambitious, and I am….

I want to and intend to achieve my dreams.

Alas, I want peace as well.

Is relaxing just a bit and permitting some down time resignation from achieving all I set out to accomplish?

I think not.

Sometimes we just have to let ourselves be. Let others be. Let it all be. And be okay with that!

Goodnight and in peace,

Debra

A brief prayer of thanks

I receive with open arms all the love that God, my friends, family, and life has to offer.

I’ve been giving all day and now it is time to just be.

Thank you for this time to enjoy a quiet space of solitude.

It’s time is brief I know but I need it so.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Thankful for the Soft, gentle, and warm glow that this evening brings

Simple pleasures are so sweet.

In a busy world by day

it is nice to come home to a space of peace, love,

and nourishment.

The fatigue of the day is washed away and released away

for good.

Now is the time for simple pleasures of good food and family

and evening strolls in the Spring air.

Soft faces that are accepting of the relief that this blessed evening brings.

Soft light, gentle energy.

Warm.

Glowing inside and out.

Thank you.

Do with me as you may.

I release my blessed day and surrender

to the peace of the night.

“Ambition is a poor excuse for not having sense enough to be lazy”. ~ Charlie McCarthy Give yourself permission to be lazy.

There are some days we are just not inspired to do much. And that is perfectly okay. This is Sunday, The day of rest. Here are some ways to be lazy today:

  1. Do nothing. If an impulse strikes you to do something, close your eyes and relax until the thought passes.
  2. Be like my cat, Mew. He is an expert on this topic. Curl up on your bed and nap all day.
  3. Go to a nearby park, find a shady spot, and sit. Stretch. Read. Dream.
  4. Do same as above only at a beach.
  5. Make love. Nap. Repeat.
  6. Don’t think about goals or a to do list. Today you are the canoe on the river enjoying your journey. Destination? What’s that?
  7. In a swimming pool, lake, or ocean, bob around on the water. Float. Dream.
  8. This is a day for little pleasures. Enjoy your iced tea or lemonade or Frapuccino. Sip slowly and savor. Allow a little ice to drip on you to cool you off. Close eyes. Dream
  9. No housework! Put that broom away.
  10. You and your partner can give each other back rubs. Nap.
  11. Order pizza tonight. Watch a movie.

Giving ourselves permission to be lazy for the day is quite healing, really. Our batteries have a chance to recharge and we will have more to give to our activity filled week.

Let's Give Ourselves Permission To Just BE: DO NOTHING

Sometimes I feel like a freight train going hundreds of miles an hour….job, family, martial arts, working out, personal goals, financial goals, relationships, spiritual growth- —All of it is wonderful. Sometimes though, I just want and need to just BE. Just exist. DO NOTHING. Do you ever feel this way? I think modern society has trained us to think that if we are not going, achieving, multi-tasking every moment of our day- we are somehow slipping up in some way.

I think it is okay to give ourselves permission to just decompress, unwind, and recharge on a regular basis. It’s all about balance. We will have much more to give to our employer, family, partners, students (if you are a teacher like me), our dreams and goals, if we will just take some time to DO NOTHING. Yes, I will say it again: DO NOTHING

This is my idea of doing nothing (I am sure you can come up with a list of your own):

  1. Take a catnap
  2. Browse a women’s magazine (pure mindless pleasure and joy. I love browsing the recipes, latest diet tips, etc)
  3. Sitting and meditating. Meditate on NOTHING. Don’t try to do a particular mantra. Just BE
  4. Catch up on Facebook or surf the web
  5. Watch a movie
  6. Watch TV
  7. Read fiction
  8. Read poetry
  9. Go for a walk or bike ride
  10. Just lie down and daydream
  11. Sit on the couch and day dream
  12. Look out the window and day dream
  13. Pet the cat and daydream
  14. Pet the dog and daydream
  15. Nurse the baby and da dream
  16. Masturbate and daydream
  17. Just chill

When we resurface from these down mode activities we will be ready to embrace all of the responsibilities, possibilities, and excitement our lives have in store for us. But we will take these things in our lives on OUR TERMS. Meaning, at our ease. Not dis-ease. Why be in a hurry? Why be rushed? Why stress? Why put so much pressure on ourselves all the time? All good things will happen in the right time. There is no need to get frenetic and harried. That kind of energy will only contribute to nervousness, panic attacks, anxiety, insomnia.

Here, at The Warm Milk Journal, we give you permission to just BE. DO NOTHING. Be at your ease…….How does that feel?
