Golden Pockets Of Blissful Time: What are yours?

“Time is a gentle God” ~ Sophocles

Time can be a gentle God, depending on how we are spending it.

It’s amazing when we are doing something we truly enjoy, time just flies. We are in the moment, joy-filled, and not a care in the world. Wouldn’t it be nice if more of our time was spent in this state?

Last night’s post on what our “warm milk” comforts of joy got me thinking…. When am I the happiest? What am I doing? Who am I with? What am I thinking about? Where am I?

I call these times my golden pockets of bliss.

For example:

  1. I am sitting on our living room couch. My cat Mew is sitting next to me. I have my books, journal, and newspaper close by. I am sipping on my cup of coffee, tea, or glass of wine. I am gazing out at our quaint view of our trees, birdfeeder, garden, and pond in the back of our property… this is a golden pocket of blissful time….
  2. Or, I am taking a walk in the evening when the moon is full. Bliss…
  3. I am writing an article for The Warm Milk Journal….I am creative and inspired… bliss…
  4. I am in the arms of my fiancé enveloped in love and intimacy. Bliss…
  5. I make a connection with a student…  bliss

You get the idea. What are your golden pockets of blissful times?

How can you get more of these times in your life? Can you let go of some things that keep you from your golden pockets? Life is precious. It goes by quickly. How do you want to live it?

What are you excited about? What brings you joy? A journal writing exercise

This evening, why not focus on the things you are currently excited about? What brings you joy? Pleasure? What are you eagerly anticipating? Any fun plans on the horizon? Tonight when you are writing in your journal I invite you to write down things in your life you are excited about. Then you will drift off to sleep with the realization of what a wonderful life you have!

My list would look something like this:

  1. I am getting married! The date is March 26, 2011. Starting to do some wedding planning…very fun and exciting.
  2. I have the most wonderful, loving, sexy, man in the world (I think that is worth getting excited about).
  3. I have a beautiful home in sunny Florida blocks away from the beach.
  4. I have adorable second graders I get to work with every day.
  5. I have my health.
  6. I two lovely fillets of cod to cook when I am finished with this post.
  7. I have a beautiful daughter and wonderful 16 year old son (who is actually pretty sweet to his mom).
  8. I have a great supportive relationship with my ex spouse (what a gift!)
  9. I have the Warm Milk Journal which I am very excited about, and..
  10. I am excited to be here on this journey of life.

Life is full of layers: Enjoy the peeling and unveiling of each one

Life is truly to be savored. It is rich and textured with many layers: successes, lessons learned, relationships, milestones, years passing, birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, hardships, blessings, adventures, and experiences.

The experience and peeling of each layer of life brings more depth, understanding, and dimension to life.

Layers: think flower petals, rich fudge torte cakes, earthy rocky canyons, flaky buttery croissants, onions, artichokes, and beautifully wrapped gifts with ribbons and bows to be untied and opened. That is what life is: richly textured layers that will be peeled and revealing the next layer when we are ready for it.

It is not a race. One wants to savor the layers. No hurry. Enjoy.

What gets you jumping for joy? Focusing on your passions

What we think about we become. What we focus on is what grows and manifests in our lives. Why not spend our time and energy thinking about and doing things we are passionate about? Each day is such a gift. Make the most of each one.

Focusing on your passion(s) will

  1. Energize you
  2. Get you excited about your life
  3. Get you focusing on positive things that make you happy
  4. promote self growth, self-esteem, self confidence
  5. Is an affirmation of the wonderful person that you are
  6. make you healthier
  7. help you sleep better at night

If you already know what your passions are, then fantastic. Get out your journal and brainstorm ideas on ways to do your passions: whether that is your life’s work, a hobby you are interested in, etc.

If you are not sure what you are passionate about then perhaps center and think about what makes you feel excited? What energizes you? What expands you? When ideas surface, write those down.

Choose something that you feel passionate about and then focus on it. Be persistent. You are worth it!

All is calm in my world… What promotes a feeling of calm for you?

As we end the day and begin to unwind, it is nice to do things or think about things that give us that peaceful, calm feeling. That is an ideal state to be in before bed. What are things that make you feel calm?

For example, here are ten things that promote a feeling of calm for me:

  1. When I let the worries and concerns of the day go.
  2. I enjoy a glass of wine and lovely meal with my family.
  3. I reflect on what went right today.
  4. Knowing I make a difference.
