My Five Wishes For You Today

I have five wishes for you today:

1.  That you are appreciated.

2. That you are loved.

3. That you find something meaningful and rewarding in the tasks that are set before you today.

4. That you find some quiet, “you time”.

5. That you do something fun, just “because”.

Shake it up and have some fun! A journal writing exercise

It’s not quite the weekend yet but if we are finding ourselves fatigued as the week wears on, we just may need a boost of fun in our routine.

In your journal write down as many things as you can think of that sound fun to you. Don’t judge or edit, just write the list….

A few things that come to my mind right away are:

  1. dancing
  2. going out for a good beer and laughing with friends
  3. visiting a new town that’s not too far from my hometown such as Savannah, Georgia   
  4. watching a comedy
  5. buying some new clothes!

Ten things to put on your “to do” list tonight

A happy “to do” list:

  1. Smile
  2. Think of one thing that went well today.
  3. Hug and kiss your spouse or partner when you walk through that door.
  4. Watch a funny movie tonight.
  5. Dance
  6. Pour a glass of wine
  7. Take a bath
  8. Go online and splurge on some fun items: massage oils, bath oils, high quality linens. You’re worth it!
  9. Plan a vacation

8 tea-time (or coffee) afternoon thoughts for you…

Tea time thoughts for this afternoon:

  1. Give yourself a pat on the back for anything productive you have done today.
  2. Think about all of the things you have to smile about.
  3. If you haven’t gotten everything done on your to do list yet, relax. It will get done at your ease, and tomorrow is another day, is it not?
  4. Think of something to be thankful for.
  5. Get up and move around!
  6. Look forward to a relaxing evening for time for yourself or time with your loved ones.
  7. If you have a commute, bless the other vehicle drivers around you.
  8. What is something completely silly that you can do this afternoon or evening?

We don’t have to color within the lines

Rules and order are all well and very good. I personally work better in a clean and orderly environment. Rules are also good for society. Don’t need criminals running things. Plans and setting goals are also terrific for moving in the direction of where we want our lives to go…

There are times, however, when we need to just cut loose a bit, get creative, think out of the box, and color outside of the lines!

Here are some ideas for today:

  1. Wear a fun color to work today- something you don’t normally wear.
  2. If you are a quiet person, speak up more and see what happens
  3. If you are a talker, be silent and listen to others and see what happens
  4. Try to a new fitness class at your gym
  5. Take a new route to work or home today
  6. Pick up that trashy beach novel this summer and give yourself permission to enjoy!
  7. In your journal today or tonight, have fun doodling and sketching. Just play.
  8. Consider taking some kind of improv or acting class to get out of yourself and just have fun with others
  9. Try a new art class or sewing class (Jo Ann Fabric stores offer classes)
  10. Go on an adventure- what does adventure mean to you on this day? Do it!
  11. Do something unexpected that will make someone’s day (example: it is a lot of fun to pay for the coffee of the vehicle behind you at the Starbucks drive through  window)
  12. Cook something new tonight for your family or sweetie. Eat outdoors or by candlelight or on a blanket in your living room and have a picnic.
  13. Invite a friend or colleague out for lunch today and try someplace you have never eaten at.
  14. Try a new food or beverage.
  15. Find new ways to move your body. All that exercise will add up and do your body and spirit some good.

Novelty is the spice of life. Sometimes we need to shake things up, try new things, do things a little differently, be creative, be more spontaneous and adventurous- and just enjoy life! Days, weeks, months, and years go by so fast. We get to a certain age and it is easy to get set in our ways…but we don’t have to. Each day is fresh and new. It is what we make it.

Color outside of those lines!

51 Ways To have crazy, quirky, out of the box fun!

Time to stretch. Time to play. time to get out of ourselves a bit and get adventurous and playful. If you are up and have your journal nearby write some ideas down. What can you do to shake your life up a bit? We need never feel like we are in a rut or bored. Life is dynamic. Life is about change. If we are stagnant and not changing we are not really living! I don’t know what is in store for tomorrow so I want to have fun NOW!

Stretching is good for us. Doing things we don’t ordinarily do. Breaking out of our routines. Using the other sides of our brains.

Just a few ideas to get you started and then in your journal come up with some of your own and then DO THEM!

  1. Jump and dance around your house or apartment and sing at the top of your lungs.
  2. Try a new recipe tonight for dinner or a restaurant you have never been to
  3. Go shopping and buy a new outfit for Spring in colors and a style that you don’t normally wear.
  4. Buy different shades of make up that you don’t normally wear
  5. Buy a different style of shoes
  6. It’s almost summer- get a new bathing suit- something bold and colorful. Perhaps even a bikini!
  7. Buy and wear a new fragrance of perfume
  8. Take a different route to work tomorrow
  9. Play a different radio station during your commute. Try a genre of music you don’t normally listen to
  10. At your gym, try a new fitness class
  11. At your gym, try a piece of equipment you have never used before
  12. Call someone you have not talked to in years
  13. Make a date with someone special: your significant other, a child, a friend, a colleague, a parent. Do something special together
  14. Get some finger paints and pretend like you are in kindergarten. Play, create, get messy!
  15. laugh with abandon for no reason at all
  16. Watch a different kind of movie you don’t normally watch
  17. Eat some chocolate today
  18. “flash” your partner when he or she is not expecting it
  19. hula hoop
  20. play with a yo-yo
  21. in front of a mirror stick out your tongue, make faces at yourself
  22. book a flight and go somewhere you have never been to before
  23. get some new bath oil or bubble bath and enjoy the new scent
  24. get some new candles for that bath
  25. try a new kind of wine tonight
  26. If you are right handed challenge yourself and try to do some things left handed and vice versa
  27. When you encounter a grumpy looking person today smile at them radiantly and wish them a nice day
  28. tickle your kids
  29. do some yoga poses, stretches, tension exercises, dance moves, or martial arts moves on the beach
  30. if you live near a beach, build a sandcastle
  31. If you live near the mountains, plan a camping trip soon and do some things you don’t normally do (cook different kinds of food, play different games, etc).
  32. Make love in a different room of your home
  33. Make love in your car
  34. Make love outside
  35. Put your serious reading aside for a while and pick up that trashy novel
  36. sign up for lessons to play a musical instrument
  37. take a class to learn a new language
  38. Go to the library or bookstore and get a book about something you know nothing about
  39. If you are an introverted person, email several people today, text several people,  call people, make plans to go to or host a party, say hello to everybody you encounter today, attend a Toastmasters meeting.
  40. If you are an extroverted person, turn off your cell phone. Stay away from your computer. Totally unplug. Be silent. Enjoy some solitude. Read. Walk, Meditate, Write. Listen to relaxing music. Do some puzzles
  41. If you are used to thinking of yourself as fat or unattractive in anyway what so ever, get yourself in front of that mirror and announce that you are absolutely gorgeous and world, watch out!
  42. Attend a community event or meeting like an arts event, wine tasting, art show, or concert
  43. If you are a die hard Democrat, attend a Republican party event in your area with an open mind, and vice versa
  44. Write a letter to the editor of your newspaper about something you feel passionate about
  45. Turn off the the tv in your home and find out what is going on with your family members
  46. Look at the sweet face of your cat or dog and just meditate on all that sweetness, innocence, and unconditonal love
  47. Draw and doodle
  48. Play with play-doh
  49. Plan a new Garden and buy some plants this weekend
  50. Browse a cookbook and mark some recipes to try
  51. send some money to a charity you have never donated to before

Have you played today?

We played as kids, but as we get older how much play time do we allow ourselves? If we let it, life can be full of responsibility and routines that are not a lot of fun. Yes, we do need to make a living in some way and take care of our families, the house, the bills, etc. But we adults need to have fun too! In recent years I have committed myself to making play an important part of my life and that commitment has vastly improved the quality of my life.

Here are some suggestions for play to get you started:

  1. dance (in our living room, at a club- anywhere!)
  2. try a new fitness class (many gyms offer them as part of the gym membership)
  3. create something: draw, write, paint, model clay
  4. get silly and roll around the floor with your kid(s), pets, spouse, partner
  5. try a drama improvisational class (loads of fun exercises to do with other people that will stretch you out of your normal comfort zone).
  6. hula hoop
  7. read something just for the fun of it (like a trashy novel)
  8. cook something festive and share the meal with people you love hanging out with
  9. plan and go on an adventure of some kind
  10. play a game: scrabble, Apples to Apples, Yahtzee, Bunco, etc
