As I drink my coffee and set out to begin my day, I would like to offer my simple morning prayer:
Dear God,
Thank for this new day. I feel fresh with a rested body and a mind open to new possibilities.
I am thankful for my health, my sweet husband, kids, and cats…
I am thankful for our beautiful home here in North Florida.
I am thankful for my job and my many other projects that give me a sense of purpose, a creative outlet, an income, and many opportunities to help, inspire, and grow myself.
Please forgive me when I lose patience with myself and others. Please help to forgive myself.
Thank you God for this new day.
Debra
Dear God,
Thank you for this new day. It is early Fall here in North Florida. The season is newly changing. Cooler air brings a fresh new energy. Thank you for this time in the year which serves to remind us to pause from all our busy doings and perhaps slow down a bit.
I am thankful for many things. I can see all around me beauty and impermanence. This combination leaves me with the bittersweet feeling of awe, humility, and gratitude.
God, with your help, may I never take this precious gift of life for granted.
May I feel and express thanks more often than I complain.
May I connect, love, and help others today and every day.
Thank you for blessing me with a good night sleep, a fresh mind, and creative energy.
May I put this energy to good use.
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you
Debra
What do I appreciate this morning? My list for my gratitude journal would look like this:
1. My health
2. My body
3. The great cup of coffee I am enjoying right now.
4. Time off from work this weekend.
5. Time with my brother and his fiance in their new home in Decatur, GA
6. My daughter
7. Our service people: THANK YOU!
What do you appreciate?
Keeping an attitude of gratitude helps to keep us centered, peaceful, and have a more positive focus as we go about our day.
Have a blessed day,
Debra
Here are eight ways to let “Thank You!” be your mantra today:
1. When you first wake up, say “thank” when the first foot touches the floor from your bed and then “you” when the other foot follows.
2. Say or think “thank you” as you take your first steps to the bathroom, closet, kitchen, etc.
3. Say or think “thank you” as you drive into work and as you enter your place of employment (or home office).
4. Say or think “thank you” for each smile you see on another’s face.
5. Say or think “thank you” for each delicious bite of food and sip of drink you take today.
6. Say a sincere “thank you” each time you are given a compliment, given good customer service, or greeted kindly.
7. Look at the splendor of mother nature outside today and think in your heart “thank you” to the divine power that created all of this.
8. Thank a friend, family member, colleage, or neighbor for just being the wonderful people that they are.
I thank you, Dear Warm Milk Journal reader, for taking time out of your valuable day to be here.
In Gratitude,
Debra

—- Your turn! : )
Sleep is close at hand.
The business of the day is behind me.
I am fatigued but thankful
for the day.
I have been blessed with:
enduring energy and
lively interactions with students and family.
I have been loved and supported.
I have inspired and loved.
Now may the tide of this evening wash over me.
May I feel its calm and peace.
May I fade into stillness.
Thank you.
Good night.
Thinking of the many blessings in our life is a guaranteed feel-good activity. Keeping a gratitude journal helps us to focus on what we are thankful for on a more regular and consistent basis.
Today, this is what my gratitude list would look like:
I am thankful for:
Your turn-what are you grateful for today?
Note: a nice book that I have owned for many years to keep a gratitude journal is The Simple Abundance of Gratitude by Sarah Ban Breathnach. At the start of the book she has a list of 150 often overlooked blessings. There is plenty of room for each day of the year to write down what you are thankful for. I started mine back in 1998 and keep adding entries each year in the side margins or wherever I can find the space. It is fun to reflect back on the richness of my blessed life during its many varied stages and experiences.
Have a blessed day. I am thankful for all of you, dear Warm Milk Journal readers!
