To live a well balanced, rewarding life of our dreams by day and sleep restfully at night.
Life is full of expectations. Others have expectations of us: our bosses, colleagues, our kids, our spouses…. We have expectations that we put on ourselves as well.
I suppose we could keep our expectations low to avoid getting disappointed… but is that what we want for our lives?
For tonight’s journal writing I invite us to explore this issue of expectations.
There are two exercises. First, write at the top of a page: “Expectation” or “Expectations” and write.
Next, write “I expect…” and write whatever comes out.
Ready to try this?
My entries may look something like this right now:
Expectations
Important to establish in relationships: a marriage, teacher-student, family members, business partners, etc.
Expectations can pave the way for smoother relationships and transactions. Without them, we could experience chaos, misunderstandings, etc.
I Expect:
I expect success
I expect respect
I expect common courtesy
I expect excellent customer service
I expect opportunities if I am open to them
This is a lot of fun and I have more to write (which I will finish in my private journal).
Your turn!
I expect you to enjoy this writing exercise and to have a restful night.
In peace,
Debra
Letting go
release
that is peace.
Holding tightly onto
things, people, or ideas
will only keep us on a tense tightrope
of expectations waiting to be dashed
from circumstances outside of our control.
Why give our peace away to such folly when we can simply let it all go?
Yes, LET IT GO.
In peace,
Debra
