Am I moving in the right direction?

It is easy to feel confused these days with so much to do and so many choices. Last weekend my husband and I were browsing in our local BestBuy store (I am interested in learning more about tablets and ereaders). I haven’t been in one of these stores in quite a while. I was truly amazed by the selection of smartphones, tablets, computers, tvs, cameras, etc. I have to say, it was almost too much selection!

What do we do if life offers us so much freedom, choices, and things to do?

I have always envied a bit those folks who just knew when they were very young what their calling and vocation was to be. They went to college for a specific purpose, major, and career. Others of us were not so clear in the direction our life was supposed to be heading.

For me, these days, my faith really helps to guide me and know whether I am moving in the right direction or not.

Things that help me get on and stay moving in the right direction.

1. Praying daily

2. Being still and quiet and listening

3. Writing in my journal

4. Getting a good night sleep (hard to think clearly if I am sleep deprived).

5. Writing out some goals

6. Making a plan to achieve my goals

7. Take baby steps. The tiniest bit of action is very empowering and encouraging. It brings out the voice from within me that says: “yes, I can do this!”

8. I ask myself in the morning: do I look forward to my day?

9. I ask myself in the evening: Was this a well spent day?

10. How does my gut feel about my life?

We are smarter than we give ourselves credit for at times. We know deep down if there is something in our lives that is not right.

A few things to note before I sign off:

1. It’s never too late to make changes in your life.

2. You are only limited if you think you are.

3. If you knew you only had six months left to live, how would you be living right now?

4. There are never really bad decisions. The worst thing is avoiding making decisions. I find it best to jump in the cold water and make some kind of decision and commit to it. This gives me considerable peace. One can always go back and assess how things are going (and make a different decision if necessary).

In your journal today you can write two questions:

What direction am I heading?

Do I like where I am going?

Then write and see what surfaces. You will know the right answers to your questions.

In peace,

Debra
