dealing with stress

Release: Letting it go for peace

Letting go

release

that is peace.

Holding tightly onto

things, people, or ideas

will only keep us on a tense tightrope

of expectations waiting to be dashed

from circumstances outside of our control.

Why give our peace away to such folly when we can simply let it all go?

Yes, LET IT GO.

In peace,

Debra

9. Focus on my blessings.

10. Connect with loved ones and friends.

What can you do to relax right now?

Have a blessed day,

Give it the boot!

When you think about the absurdities of your job, give them the boot! They have no power over you.

When you want to feel sorry for yourself, give that desire the boot! No pity parties here.

Whatever is not working in your life, give it the boot!

Whatever is not nourishing you (unsupportive people, old clothes hanging in your closet you never wear, knickknacks cluttering about your home collecting dust, etc.) give it the boot!

That’s right, you can kick some you know what!

5 steps to taming the tension in our lives and moving towards tranquility

Blessed tranquility. When I am stressed and perceive life as being challenging it gets difficult to be serene, peaceful, and tranquil.

When I am in a more peaceful state, I see things more optimistically. There is no question that I am feeling better about myself and my life when I am calm. How to get there?

Today is Sunday, the day for rest. Here are five ideas for taming the tension in your life and moving towards greater tranquility.

  1. Take proper care of yourself. it is harder to deal with the stress of life if we are not eating, exercising, or sleeping well.
  2. Be kind (to self and others)
  3. Practice forgiveness often and learn how to let things go.
  4. Get centered by nurturing your spiritual life through: reading, meditation, walking, yoga, journal writing, etc.
  5. Fight well when you are in conflict or having a disagreement with another person. Listen. Perhaps just choose to agree. Is it more important to be right or have peace in your life?

Claiming and nurturing calm in your day

In the peace of a calm and quiet space all things are possible. The body is calm. The mind is calm. The soul is soothed and nourished. In noisy chaos that is just not the case. The body is stressed. The mind is agitated. The soul feels depleted.

What can you do to get more calm in your day?

  1. Create breaks for yourself during the day. Close your office door. Take a walk outside during lunch.
  2. Breathe deeply and clear your mind of chatter on a regular basis. When you are driving your car or waiting in line are good times to practice this.
  3. Be bigger than your problems. Be the calm amidst the stormy chaos.
  4. Don’t give away your power to your job or other people.
  5. Exercise
  6. Spend time in nature.
  7. Decorate your home and office space in soothing cool colors. Blues, greens, and shades of violet are very serene colors.
  8. Meditate
  9. Write in your journal.
  10. Let go of things you can not control.

In calm and peace,

Debra

A Friday “to do” list

Some ideas for the day:

  1. Be goofy and playful.
  2. Do something today just for the fun of it.
  3. Call up somebody you care about to tell them what they mean to you.
  4. Try a new recipe tonight.
  5. All of the challenges at work: try to take them all with a grain of salt. The “problems” and all the work won’t go away over night so try not to stress too much about it. Do your best and that is all anyone can expect of you.
  6. Do you have a weekend adventure planned? Is there someplace even in your own city that you have never done before?
  7. Browse a bookstore.
  8. Try a new kind of coffee or tea today.
  9. Even if you don’t feel like it, smile. You can fake it till you make it.
  10. Shop for something new for your home or wardrobe to celebrate the change of season.
  11. Enjoy the cooler Fall days. It is a beautiful time of year!

Happy Friday,

Dealing with stress: problems that will pass and problems that need to be dealt with

Stress is a part of life. How we deal with it will impact the hold it does or does not have on the quality of our lives. Some things will pass and we are putting unnecessary stress on ourselves for worrying about it. Other issues do need to be addressed and the sooner the better!

  1. Many things we worry about do not ever happen. Often worry is a habit that our minds do. Like anything else, habits can be broken and reprogrammed. If you have habitual worry tapes going on, there are tools you can use. You can write worries down in a journal, meditate, rethink your perspective on many things, etc.
  2. Some things do need to be dealt with and you have reason to be concerned. Avoiding and putting off dealing with certain things will only make the stress and worry worse. If something is going on with your health or your financial or business life, for instance- burying your head in the sand will not make these problems go away. I find just making myself deal with these issues head on is the best strategy. Make that appointment with the doctor. Talk to the company with whom you are having a billing dispute with, etc. These tasks are not pleasant. Not doing them only prolongs the stress, however. The sooner you take care of the problem, the sooner your peace of mind will be returned to you and you can go on with enjoying your life.
