To live a well balanced, rewarding life of our dreams by day and sleep restfully at night.
With daylight savings time we all “lost” an hour today. Some of us may feel a little groggy as a result. I know I felt slightly off today. Aside from my physical energy, however, moving the clocks this Spring day has gotten me thinking about the whole concept of time. Time is actually a pretty relative concept. We humans need order and structure and have devised a way to “quantify” it. In our fast paced lives we often complain about not having enough time or spending too much time on things we don’t want to do (jobs we hate, the housework, etc.)
What if we changed our perspective a bit? For fun, I would like to offer you a journal writing exercise entitled:
Imagine if you had all the time in the world- to do everything and anything you ever wanted? How would you feel? How would this affect your life? What choices would you make? What would you do differently now, if anything? Who would spend your time with? How would you spend your time? Where?
You get the idea. Just start writing and see what surfaces…
This exercise so appeals to me right now that I will begin my journal entry.
I imagine I would write something like this….
If I had all the time in the world,
1. I would slow down and not be in such a hurry all the time.
2. I would feel less stress, more at peace.
3. I would concentrate on the things I love the most: my family, my writing, and spending time outdoors.
4. I would not complain as much or be as cranky
5. I would not feel so overworked and tired, for I am doing work I love and taking mental and physical rests as often as needed on my terms, on my schedule…
6. I am a more attentive mother, daughter, partner, and friend because I have more time to devote and nurture these relationships.
Well, I am six ideas into this brainstorming session and in my mind I am thinking about how I can really live my life this way? How can I prioritize and structure my days so that I am doing and feeling these six things (which are primarily about spending my time doing the things that are truly important with the people in my life who are the most important).
Hmmm……I am going to think about this.
Your turn. See what emerges for you as you do this exercise.
In peace,
Debra
