What is life? The Mew Way: important life philosophy from my cat, Mew

Every now and then my cat, Mew, wants to contribute to the Warm Milk Journal. I write on a my MacBook on my bed and Mew is usually curled up right next to me or on his corner at the foot of the bed.

So, Mew, what is life? According to The Mew Way, life is:

  1. All about being loved.
  2. All about being cute.
  3. All about the next nap.
  4. All about the next can of tuna.

Any questions? ; )

The Mew Way: docility

No worries here!

My cat Mew is the sweetest, flexible, most docile creature on this planet. He will let anybody pick him up and love on him. He often lies on his back with his belly facing the world. This is a very trusting and relaxed cat. He is not afraid to show his vulnerable underside to the world. It is evident that Mew knows he is safe, secure, and loved. Coincidentally, Mew does not lack for sleep, ever. He sleeps a lot. Quite contentedly.

The definition of docile is to be easily taught, led, or managed. I don’t think Mew has been taught his mellow ways of going through life. He just seems to get that going with the flow is The Way, the Mew Way…. This relaxed approach to life works quite well for him.

The word docile does fit Mew. He is very manageable. If you want to brush him and turn him on his other side, he just willingly accepts being moved. If Mew is sleeping too close to the pillow with a human owner that has allergy issues, he will be happily moved to the foot of the bed on his towel (which is where his daddy wants him to sleep).

Mew does not complain. He does not protest. He just bends and goes with it. He is at his ease. Not his dis-ease.

I think we can learn a lot from my cat, Mew.

Awareness the Mew Way

Mew is my wonderful, adorable long haired black cat. Like any cat, Mew recognizes the need to be aware and conscious of his surroundings. It always amazes me how fast a cat’s reflexes are when they hear something. Cats can leap and spring into action faster than anything. However, when there is no loud noise to react to, Mew is chilling. He may continue to be aware but he is relaxed and can stay in this totally relaxed, napping state for an incredibly long time. I don’t think Mew is going to age prematurely due to undue stress he is putting on himself. Nor do I think he is lying there on the foot of the bed worrying about much of anything.

In summary, what can I learn from Mew? For safety’s sake and my survival I should be aware of my surroundings and be ready to take action when (and only if and when) immediate circumstances warrant it (a loud noise, someone much bigger than me about ready to step on me, etc.) Otherwise, just chill. Relax. No worries. Stress? What’s that? Problems? Are you kidding me? Fuhgettabout it…I am too busy taking my nap, ok?

The Mew Way: Restorative Sleep the Feline way

No worries here!

Every now and then I am going to write posts inspired by my wonderful cat, Mew. Last night I was reading about the different stages of sleep and in particular -the idea of restorative sleep. I just happened to look up from my book, and there was Mew at the foot of the bed on his back, all four legs up, belly up….sound asleep. Talk about restorative sleep!

What can we learn from our wonderful furry friends?

  1. Don’t worry
  2. Be in the Now
  3. Know you are loved
  4. Know you are safe
  5. Stretch and get in a good comfortable sleeping position
  6. Trust in the world- don’t be afraid
  7. Be content with what you have (a soft warm bed, a warm loving human nearby on her laptop)
  8. There are very few things in this world more important then a restful, undisturbed nap!
