Five ways blogging can help you get a good night sleep!

young woman working at home

How can blogging give us a good night sleep?

Here are five ways:

1. Blogging is a terrific creative outlet. However you want to express yourself, you can do it by blogging. There is something very relaxing and satisfying about creating something. I feel so fulfilled and at peace after I have posted (especially when I know it is a really good one)!

2. Blogging helps you be heard! We all have voices that need to be heard. When you put something you believe in that is a part of you out there to the world and the world responds back in a positive way- that is enormously affirming! Feeling affirmed and valued will definitely help you sleep at night.

3. Blogging is good for connecting with like minded and supportive people. We are social beings. When you become a part of a community and you feel like you are contributing to it… that is a very satisfying feeling to drift off to sleep with.

4. Blogging is writing and writing is healing….

5. If your day job is not fulfilling you, blogging can keep you feeling motivated and your spirits high.

Whether you feel like you are a writer or not, I encourage you to give blogging a try. Whatever your interests may be, there are certainly people out there who share your enthusiasms or experiences too. Blogging does not have to cost you a thing! There are many free blogging platforms such as WordPress.com, Blogger, and Tumblr just to name a few.

Here’s to expressing ourselves, being affirmed and validated, and contributing to and being supported by our community!

The bottom line is we all have the need to be significant and have purpose.

Blogging about something you care about can give you that.

Guess what? If you feel significant and feel as if your life has purpose, you will not have much issues with anxiety or getting to sleep at night…

Finding your voice, part 2

What does finding your voice mean to you?

For me, it means:

1. Not apologizing for being myself
2. Not being afraid to voice my opinions
3. Not being afraid to ask for what I am worth
4. Not being afraid to promote myself
5. Sharing with others the quirky way that I see things
6. Having the confidence to live an authentic life
7. asserting myself
8. Saying no when I don’t want to do something
9. Having more fun and joy in my life because I am not critiquing, judging, or silencing myself all of the time; in other words:
10. Not holding myself back because I am afraid of what others think!

How do you find your voice?

1. Journal writing: explore any fears you may have, do some creative writing, ask yourself some good questions…
2. Blogging: there is nothing like writing something that you know others are going to read. In time as you get more comfortable and confident, your true voice will begin to come out and shine!
3. Public speaking: Yes, this is a scary idea for many of us. Putting yourself out there will increase your confidence. I recommend attending a Toastmaster’s meeting. They have a great program that supports anybody who wants to improve their communication and leadership skills.
4. Challenge yourself regularly by trying new things and meeting new people.
5. Meditate and write down this affirmation: ” I Am enough” Say it, feel it, and believe it!
6. What do you say “yes” to?
7. It is okay to say no to things you don’t want to do. It is your plate. Don’t let others load it up for you with their demands and requests.
8. If you start to worry about what others think, realize that they are probably worrying about what others are thinking about them!
9. Sing in the shower
10. When you are home alone try some verbal chants when you are meditating. Simple “oms” work nicely. The vibration of your own voice is healing and quite empowering.

Have a blessed day!

Five things I say “yes!” to today- an affirmative journal writing exercise

I say “yes”! to

1. forgiving myself for not being “perfect” (whatever perfect means)

2. promoting myself and others

3. getting out of my comfort zone to grow and do the things I really want to do in my life (rather than just talk about doing them).

4. drinking coffee, reading the paper, blogging, and Twittering all morning long in bed with hubby and cats.

5. being kind

What do you say yes to today? Write it down. Own it. Affirm yourself and this incredible life.

Have a blessed day,

Debra

Five ways to get into that wonderful creative space that will bring you more joy, peace, and restful sleep in your life

I am often at my happiest when I am being creative. There is something very spiritual and almost magical when I am in that flowing space of creativity. The more time I spend in this space the more peace and joy I feel ,and the better I sleep at night.

Here are five ways that I ease myself into this blissful space and you can too!

  1. I am taking a newspaper diet. I’ve always loved my newspaper in the morning but for this week I have not even glanced at my beloved paper. Instead of immediately filling my consciousness with the newest crimes committed in our city, I am drinking my coffee in silence and centering. I meditate. I pray. I write in my gratitude journal. I read inspirational articles. I stretch, breathe, and do some yoga poses and resistance exercises. I greet and wish a wonderful day to my friends on Twitter
  2. I write. I love to write! I always have! I like to write in my journal. I love to write here at The Warm Milk Journal. Some writers struggle with writer’s block. I do not have this problem. Ideas are everywhere. I observe the world and people around me. I read all the time. I meditate. Ideas just surface. Sometimes something I have read inspires a post for the Warm Milk Journal. I may use a personal experience to prompt my writing. The real magic happens, however, when I really have no idea initially what I will write about when I turn my computer on. For all you bloggers out there I have a strategy I will share with you. I like to look at photos and when an image captivates me in some why I download it and write an article from whatever inspires me when I look at the picture. Try it! It really works and you will never lack for creative ideas for content on your websites and blogs. I love to write poems and stories too. The best ones come out of me with very little effort. They literally flow out from me. Pure inspiration. Pure creative magic. Bliss.
  3. I dance. Put on some music and dance around like a kid in your living room. For New Years my fiance and I rented some ballroom dancing dvds from the library and played them to get some new ideas for our dance moves. It was fun!
  4. Draw. doodle. color. paint. Put on some music, pour yourself a glass of wine and create!
  5. Cook. Experiment with different ingredients and spices. Grow a few herbs in your garden. Invest in some cookbooks or magazines such as Cooking Light. Be free enough to use the recipe as a foundation but make it your own. Have fun!

Journal writing and blogging is good for our health!

Any activity we do that nurtures our creative side is very good for us. It empowers us, lifts our spirits, connects us with our higher power, keeps us mentally active in a positive way, and gets us in “the flow”.

Any kind of writing including journal writing and blogging will get our creative juices flowing. It is very satisfying to get our thoughts on paper (or the computer screen). I think it is truly good for the soul. Anything good for the soul is good for our sleep!

So I recommend writing. Write on!
