Being still

Please help me to be still… this morning’s short prayer

Dear God,

Thank you for this day. I am refreshed and ready for the opportunities and challenges that await me.

Please help me to be more present with the people around me.

May I pause, and really smile at someone walking my way,

May I slow down enough to notice how green everything is thanks to recent rain.

I know I sometimes get impatient and rush around with all my to dos and general busy-ness…

Please help me to be still,

so that I can live this day to it’s fullest.

Thank You and

Amen,

Debra

What is nudging you right now? A journal writing exercise

What is nudging you right now? What gentle, quiet messages are stirring within you? Tonight, spend sometime being quiet. Take a bath. Sit and meditate. Do some simple stretches. When you are ready, get out your journal. Sit up straight. Place your journal on your lap and ask yourself, “what is nudging me? What is resonating with me right now?”. Close your eyes and breathe deeply. Sit and be quiet as long as you want.

When you are ready, open your eyes and your journal- take one more deep breath and begin to write….

I am doing this exercise tonight as well. Let’s see…

What is nudging me? What currently resonates with me?

1. I love my job.

2. I appreciate the quiet when I am home from my job.

3. I feel the need to specialize and focus on less: fewer projects, fewer ideas, etc. I often have so many ideas with my creative energy and then I tend to either spread myself too thin or not carry through with all of my endeavors. Less is more.

4. Love. I am blessed with love in my life all over the place! I am so fortunate!

5. Life is precious. I do not want to waste a day on negativity and stuff that doesn’t matter.

Your turn, Dear Warm Milk Journal reader….

Goodnight,

Debra : )

Being Silent

Being silent at times is very good for us. It calms our nervous systems down. Calms the mind.  Soothes the soul. Helps us to connect to our higher power. After a busy day with my second graders I really need that time. If I get it, I sleep much better at night.

How can we fit in times to be silent and be still in our busy lives? Here are a few suggestions:

  1. If you commute, turn off the car stereo once in a while
  2. Sit and meditate during work and lunch breaks
  3. Set up times at home when you intend to be quiet and then communicate with family members not to interrupt you
  4. Take a walk without your music
  5. Spend time outdoors alone
  6. Go on a silent retreat
  7. Unplug: turn off phones, computers, all electronics!

When you do emerge from your time of silence you will be much more refreshed and have more to give.  You will be more centered and will sleep better at night.
