I Am thankful for the things I have now in my life such as:
1. The Atlantic ocean and a beautiful beach just blocks away from my home. This evening I enjoyed the pastel pinks and blues of the sky and on the water as the sun went down. The Florida birds were fun to watch and I enjoyed my walk and doing my Bikram yoga poses on the shore…
2. The nice glass of Cabernet Sauvignon that I am enjoying right now.
3. The productive day that I had with my students today.
4. My home which is clean, comfortable, warm, and a fun space to live in.
5. My husband whom I absolutely adore. I still get butterfly flutters when I think of how much I love him.
6. My adorable daughter who is smart and ambitious and ready to take on the world at age 14.
7. My parents and brother who are always there for me.
8. My ex whose friendship and mutual caring for our children I tremendously appreciate.
9. My beautiful Merlot red 2009 Honda Accord. It is the greatest car.
10. Being safe and healthy and alive.
Now it is your turn, Dear friend…
What are you thankful that you have in your life right now?
In Peace,
Debra

I am happy and I am sleeping well. My life is still as hectic and stressful as usual, but what is keeping me in this wonderful positive state?
A few things come to mind:
1. I feel confident in my abilities and the direction my life is taking.
2. I definitely care, but not too much ( I have banished people pleasing from my repertoire. Ha!)
3. I am making friends with change. Change happens. Rather than resist it, what happens when we embrace it? I am discovering that I have more joy in my life because I am not holding rigidly tight to the status quo… let go… be open to change. There just maybe something better with the new tide… (pretty exciting stuff!)
4. I have found and I am owning my voice. This is huge for me. Knowing our value in the world and that we are significant- we need to be heard. We are powerful.
5. Knowing all the good that I am doing.
6. Knowing and continuing to have faith in all the good in the world.
7. Placing love above all else to be the compass that guides my life.
8. Focusing on gratitude
9. Focusing on being kind
10. My yoga practice
11. My marriage to my best friend
12. Being persistent and keeping my eyes on the prize… (I have dreams and goals that I keep working on daily and they are now becoming a reality!)
13. Laughing during the day
14. By night, developing the ability to let the day go.
15. Be truly present with whomever I come into contact with.
16. Do not complain!!! ****** (this one is huge!) If you can knock complaining out of your life experience I guarantee your quality of life will increase exponentially!
17. I love myself.
May you be happy. May you be at peace, May you sleep well, dear friend- for that is the mission for us here at The Warm Milk Journal.
Good night,
Do we have a good night of sleep because we had a great day or
do we have a great day because we slept well?
Here at The warm Milk Journal we believe it is both.
There are certainly physical things we can do to help insomnia such as control our sleeping environment (lighting, quiet, quality mattress pillows and linens, wearing eyepads and ear plugs, wearing socks and comfortable sleepwear, etc.)
However, you can have the most comfortable bed in the world, a partner who sleeps quietly, no pets or babies to wake you up, etc. – and if you are anxious, worried, stressed, etc. you will not sleep restfully.
That is why many of the articles here at The Warm Milk Journal focus on living your most fulfilling life possible by day.
What can you do live the life of your dreams (by day) and have sweet dreams and blessed restful sleep (by night)?
At its core, that is what this site is about: BALANCE
To a rewarding day and peaceful night,
Debra
This morning I set an intention to be silly today. It is healing to not take ourselves or life too seriously all the time. So, in that spirit, here are my ideas for the day:
1. Make funny faces.
2. Forgive quickly
3. If I watch a movie tonight, watch a comedy.
4. Tell my young students some jokes and riddles.
5. Eat dessert first.
6. Play, play, play!
7. Workout with abandon at the gym later.
8. Download some fun new music for my workouts.
9. Smile first, think later.
10. Laugh at anything.
11. Be a geek and don’t care.
To a silly day!
Debra
I’ve said it before but it is worth repeating: what you focus on grows. Be attentive to what you give your attention to. I find that I am so much happier and enjoy greater peace (and yes, a good night sleep!) if I do these five things:
1. Set a positive intention for my day first thing in the morning when I am waking up.
2. Find something to like and appreciate about my job.
3. If I don’t like something I try to remember that all things are temporary and impermanent.
4. I keep a gratitude journal.
5. I bless and appreciate my loved ones, my health, my paycheck, my car, my country, etc.
Acknowledge, Accept, and Appreciate All the good in your life.
Do this and bask in the light by day. Restore and rest at night.
Simple, yes!?
Debra ; )
