To live a well balanced, rewarding life of our dreams by day and sleep restfully at night.
To simple pleasures
and dreams that are there
within reach.
To kind smiles
and loving companionship
when we most need it.
To food in our bellies
when we are hungry and
Comfy beds to land and nestle into
when the day is done.
Thankful for many things.
Endings and fresh starts just a few.
I am eager to rest my head now
and wake up clear eyed and
feeling new.
Good night.
Heavy are my eyelids
Fatigued is my body
I am tired but in a good way.
I worked hard and gave the day
my all.
Now the evening has come
to sweep and nestle me away from
the travails of the day
and cocoon me into
a quiet,
soft,
dark,
and peaceful
space
where dreams float in and
cares sail out-
and body and mind recharge
effortlessly.
When the morning comes, I
know I will awaken
with fresh eyes and
a rested body-
Ready to give the world my best
once again.
Old Oak Trees Standing Strong
Arms reaching out and
up towards the sky with
gnarled hands and twisted fingers
canopied by moss and leaves.
Even the soft lighting and shadows of the day
can’t hide your age.
What stories could you tell,
Wise old friends,
of fallen soldiers and drunken parties in
grand mansions halted
forevermore by the flames
of war?
You’ve witnessed times of peace, prosperity, destruction, and
then peace and calm once again.
You were here long before me
and will stand long after
I am gone.
What would you like to say?
I am listening.
(An original verse by me, Debra. I was inspired by my recent visit to beautiful Savannah, Georgia. Enjoy!)
Restful slumber
close at hand.
I am thankful for this day.
It was a good day.
The evening beckons with it’s dimming light,
calm and quiet,
and opportunity to relax and renew.
Nighttime, I am all yours.
Do with me as you may.
I release my blessed day and surrender
to the peace of the night.
Spring is almost here.
An evening spring :
open windows,
gentle breezes,
promise in the air.
Relief that comes when
the heaviness of winter
has lifted.
Feeling joy and light-
freshness and new beginnings.
Rest and take delight
in welcoming what makes you spring and buoyant
in your life.
Good night.
In the darkness
I am light
I am love
I know peace
and I am thankful for every moment of this beautiful day
that has now come to a close.
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you
Good night
Sleep is close at hand.
The business of the day is behind me.
I am fatigued but thankful
for the day.
I have been blessed with:
enduring energy and
lively interactions with students and family.
I have been loved and supported.
I have inspired and loved.
Now may the tide of this evening wash over me.
May I feel its calm and peace.
May I fade into stillness.
Thank you.
Good night.
It’s time for sleep. It’s time to let the day go. A verse for you tonight:
Too lazy to be ambitious ,
I let the world take care of itself.
Ten days’ worth of rice in my bag;
a bundle of twigs by the fireplace
Why chatter about delusion and enlightenment?
Listening to the night rain on my roof,
I sit comfortably, with both legs stretched out.
