The Mew Way

Life lessons from my adorable, docile, lovable cat Mew

Dealing with change, The Mew Way

Dealing with change, the Mew Way

First, the only changes in life that are worth getting a bit worked up about are:

1. an empty food or water dish

2. a dirty litter box

3. suitcases coming out of the closet and your people putting things inside them…

4. Loud thunder or fireworks from outside

5. Strange people or other animals in your house

6. a car ride

7. a visible pet carrier

8. a trip to the vet

9. Small children coming at you… and

10. a change in residence.

If any of these ten things are happening in your life you have every right to:

yowl, hide in the closet, and mope around until somebody notices your distress.

Then, insist on plenty of hugs and cuddling and perhaps a can of salmon or two…

In time, the storm in your life will pass and it will be time for a nap.

Any questions?

5. stretch

8. Wait a minute, “doubt”? What is that?

Three things that The Mew Way IS NOT: another life lesson from my dear cat, Mew

Those of you who have been around for a while know that once in a while my sweet cat, Mew, inspires a post here at The Warm Milk Journal. What is the Mew Way? The Mew Way is a state, a way of approaching life. Perhaps I can best describe to you what the Mew Way is by pointing out three things that the the Mew Way is not…..

The Mew Way IS NOT:

1. Stingy with affection. It’s about loving everybody who is willing to pet and make goo goo eyes with you.

2. Stressing out about stuff. It’s all about relaxing. The only thing, and really THE ONLY THING to stress about is an empty food bowl….

3. about losing sleep. EVER! Nap, nap again- and when in question…take a nap! Got it?

Once again, thank you Dear Mew, for shedding light on the most important things.

Ten tips to getting enough sleep: The Mew Way

My cat Mew never feels sleep deprived. However does he do it? Here are Mew’s ten tips to

GETTING ENOUGH SLEEP: THE MEW WAY

1. Find a comfy cozy place to sleep: beds, laundry baskets, by a sunny window, boxes, towel cabinet, and bathroom tile floor are all good options.

2. Stretch well before going to sleep.

3. Never skip a meal.

4. Don’t ever watch the clock. Sleep when you feel sleepy.

5. Wake up only when you feel like it (or when you hear the sound of the can opener).

6. Snuggle and sleep next to a loved one.

7. Experiment with different sleep positions.

8. Make napping a priority.

9. Don’t let life stress you out.

10. Be mellow most of the time.

That’s it. Thanks Mew!

The Mew Way: Pure Love

My cat Mew has the good life down. He is sweet. He is gentle. He does not stress about much unless his food or water bowls are empty.

The one thing that Mew does really well is love. Plain and simple. He will look at you with his beautiful gentle green eyes and gazingly love you. He will roll onto his back and invite you to rub his underside. He in his own way announces “love me”. Mew seems to know when I am a little down. He will nestle right next to me and just purr. And love.

I know we humans may be a little more complex than our feline friends, but how can we be more loving. How can we be more like Mew, and just be Pure Love?

  1. We already are pure love. We just need to acknowledge that fact and remind ourselves of it from time to time.
  2. Be gentle with ourselves and others
  3. Do what nurtures us.
  4. Give and serve others.
  5. Be patient
  6. Be open to a back rub, a belly rub, a scratch behind the ear, a little pat on the head…
  7. Don’t fret about stuff that in the end doesn’t matter
  8. Unconditional acceptance of people, things, and situations
  9. refrain from judgment
  10. Rub noses and lick loved ones

The Mew Way: What Life Is Not About

My cat, Mew, knows a thing or two about living the good life. Here’s his take on what life is not about.

Life is not about:

  1. Deprivation of food or sleep. So eat, nap frequently, and be merry!
  2. Suffering in any way. If not happy with something, yowl loud enough to get deserved attention and immediate resolution.
  3. Worry. The point….?
  4. Being lonely. Companionship is the spice of life.
  5. Multi-tasking. Focus on one task at a time, thank you very much. Will concentrate on that cardinal on the back patio for a while longer…
  6. Overcommitting. What’s that?
  7. Cheap cat food

Once again, Thanks Mew!
