God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today. Have you used one to say “thank you?” ~William A. Ward
Dear God,
Thank you for all of the gifts I enjoy in my life such as:
Waking up each morning to a sweet cat and husband who makes coffee for me each morning…
The smiles on my students faces when they know they have “got it!” during a lesson…
The beauty of my North Florida home: the unique birds, the trees and flowers, the ocean, the marshes and St. John’s river
The sweet little kiss that my 14 year old daughter gave me on my cheek last night before she went to bed…
All of things and so much more I feel thankful for, God.
I thank you for my life.
I thank you for these gifts.
Amen
What we focus on grows.
I believe in the power of visualization. If we are clear on what we want we will attract it into our lives. Back when I was an 18 year old college student I can remember journaling about my dream home as a young married person raising a family.
When I was in my early thirties gazing out at my view of Mount Rainier (at the time we lived on a beautiful property in Washington State) I realized that I was living in the home that I imagined many years ago as a much younger version of myself. That day I dug out that old journal and sure enough, I had the house, the tall fir trees, and the mountain all drawn out..
Well, I am enjoying a new chapter in my life now. I am now in my forties with a new husband, two teenagers, and two cats. I live in beautiful North Florida near the beach. Although we love our current residence, it is not our dream home.
I am visualizing that dream home now and writing about it in my current journal.
You can do the same. You can visualize and write about your dream home, dream career, dream partner, dream vacation, or anything else you want in your life.
This kind of journal writing is a favorite of mine because it gets me excited about my life and all the possibilities.
A few things to note:
1. Be as specific as possible
2. Feel gratitude about all the good you have now
3. Be thankful for whatever it is you are dreaming about as if you have it now.
Just play with it and have fun. Write. Draw and sketch. Getting out some paper and paints or magazine pictures and a poster board would be fun as well.

Tonight I invite you to take that bath, pour that glass of wine or brew that herbal tea…
Before bed, write a prayer in your journal. It can be very simple. Connecting to God (or whatever your faith may be) is very healthy for us. Getting out of ourselves a bit, focusing on a higher power can provide us with: perspective, the feeling of awe and love, gratitude, support, insight, and most of all: PEACE
My prayer for tonight:
Dear God,
Thank you for this day and now for the fact that this day has come to an end. I so welcome the evening and a little rest.
God, I hope that the good I did outweighed anything else. I appreciate the opportunities I was given to be a loving patient wife, teacher, and mother.
I appreciate all the smiles I received from colleagues and strangers.
I appreciate the beautiful Florida day I enjoyed as I took my young students outdoors today for recess.
I am thankful for the chance to inspire and nurture others. I love to be creative and I can do that during my work day and
writing here for The Warm Milk Journal.
Please help me to have perspective and continue to do good work.
Help me also to stretch and think out of the box regularly.
Amen,
Debra
We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day. ~Edith Lovejoy Pierce
As 2011 comes to a close, it is time to do a little assessing:
1. What went well?
2. what made me laugh or cry?
3. What was I afraid of?
4. What inspired me?
As I move into the new year, what do I want to add to the mix? Or, perhaps discard and not look back?
Here is what I would like to order up for 2012:
Good health
Prosperity
Purpose
New adventures
The continued opportunity to help and inspire others
What are you going to order up for the New Year?
I can tell you are thinking real hard about it….
Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right. ~Oprah Winfrey
In peace,
Debra
Dear God,
When I feel a little grumpy at times, please help me to choose a better way by:
1. Overlooking perceived “faults” in others
2. Seeing the sunshine through the clouds, and
3. Being thankful for what I do have rather than feeling sad for what I don’t
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
Amen,
Debra

Blessed is the flame that burns in the secret fastness of the heart

It is the eighth night of Hannukah tonight. “Hannukah” or “Channukah” literally means to dedicate. In terms of this Jewish holiday the word refers to the re dedication of the holy Jerusalem temple at the time of the Maccabean revolt during the second century BCE.
Whether you come from the Jewish tradition or not, we can all benefit from focusing on what we are dedicated to. If we truly focus and dedicate ourselves on what really matters and is important to us, then we will be blessed with much light in our lives.
Two questions for your journal writing to ask this December evening, the eighth night of Hannukah:
1. What brings light into your life?
2. What are you willing or wish to dedicate yourself and your life to?
I can not wait to begin my entries..
What brings light into my life?
Let’s see…
1. My family
2. My marriage
3. My job: working with children and helping to instill the love of reading, writing, and learning…
4. The natural beauty of my home state of Florida, the sunshine state!
5. Friends who hang in there with me..
6. Supportive colleagues
7. My yoga class and gym
8. Beautiful music
9. Meals cooked with love
10. My cat
11. My garden
What do I wish to dedicate (or rededicate) my life to?
1. My marriage
2. My children
3. My students
4. My health
5. My spiritual growth
6. The Warm Milk Journal and supporting people from all around the globe to live a well balanced life by day (free of anxiety) and sleeping restfully at night (free of anxiety)
Your turn, Dear Friends!
Here’s to a light-filled, radiant life filled with dedicated purpose.
Much love to you and as always…
In Peace,
Debra
Dear God,

May I make the most of this day. If I or anybody near me is in need of healing please help us to make it so.
