Rose Colored Glasses

Dear Rose Colored Glasses,

Do I dare put you on?

The world may mock me and peg me as idealistic and pollyannish…

For only a fool would see the world through colored lenses that paint one’s world with love and optimism…

It is not wise, “they” who are “wise” would say-

When the world is full of strife and troubles.

“In such times as these we need to wear a sharper lens as to focus on the reality of things”…they would have me believe.

At the end of the day,

whose definition of reality is really my own?

I choose to wear you

Dear Rose Colored Glasses.

For if I don’t I will be just as foolish as one who sees the world only in black and white.

We get to enjoy a variety of roles in a life that is not black and white (How lucky are we!).

Variety is the spice of life!

I am not sure who said that but it is true…I love it that I take on different roles as I enjoy my life experience wearing different hats.

I treasure my role as wife, mother, teacher, yogi, daughter, sister, and friend….

Life is a palette of…

different roles,

experiences,

decisions,

relationships and such…

Life is not black and white.

Oh no it is not!

For all the colors and shades that we are offered…

we are very fortunate indeed.

Good night.

Be well.

Peace,

Debra

Goodnight, sweet baby…. A Bedtime Verse

You can sleep now,

sweet baby…

You are scrubbed clean from your bath

and just as sweet as you can be.

The time is now,

sweet baby…

to close those beautiful eyes of yours

and slip into slumber land

where the world of sweet dreams awaits you.

That’s right,

sweet baby….

You are ready,

yes you are.

Your mommy loves you,

your daddy too.

The whole world wishes you a nighty night

and blessed blissful dreams

to cradle you

until the morning greets you

with its warm, loving light.

Good night, sweet baby…

My dream home and other dreams…a journal writing and visualization exercise

What we focus on grows.

I believe in the power of visualization. If we are clear on what we want we will attract it into our lives. Back when I was an 18 year old college student I can remember journaling about my dream home as a young married person raising a family.

When I was in my early thirties gazing out at my view of Mount Rainier (at the time we lived on a beautiful property in Washington State) I realized that I was living in the home that I imagined many years ago as a much younger version of myself. That day I dug out that old journal and sure enough, I had the house, the tall fir trees, and the mountain all drawn out..

Well, I am enjoying a new chapter in my life now. I am now in my forties with a new husband, two teenagers, and two cats. I live in beautiful North Florida near the beach. Although we love our current residence, it is not our dream home.

I am visualizing that dream home now and writing about it in my current journal.

You can do the same. You can visualize and write about your dream home, dream career, dream partner, dream vacation, or anything else you want in your life.

This kind of journal writing is a favorite of mine because it gets me excited about my life and all the possibilities.

A few things to note:

1. Be as specific as possible
2. Feel gratitude about all the good you have now
3. Be thankful for whatever it is you are dreaming about as if you have it now.

Just play with it and have fun. Write. Draw and sketch. Getting out some paper and paints or magazine pictures and a poster board would be fun as well.

New beginnings can be the start of radical change or simply

a little tweaking of what was and making it something more authentic for you NOW…

New beginnings… limitless….

An important letter to Santa

December 2011

Dear Santa,
I do believe in you. As a mother and teacher in my community I happen to know that a lot of young (and even not so young) children still believe (or certainly want to) believe in you.

You’ve enjoyed an incredible and magical 200 year run but I have to say, Santa, you’ve got competition nowadays.
Kids have incredible technology now at their disposal. They have things called IPads and apps with instant this and instant that… What do they need to wait 364 days for you and your reindeer and sleigh of gifts for?

Santa, with all my heart I believe our kids in this day and age still need you, but you are going to have to do a few things or else you may end up discarded along with the typewriters, VHS cassettes, and phonograph records…

My advice is simple:
Downplay your internet presence. Yes, today’s conventional wisdom is that you need to market yourself on the internet and use social media. Santa, please don’t create a Facebook page or open a Twitter account. Don’t worry about your status on Klout.

Instead, use your magic to make the stars just a little brighter on Christmas Eve, so that maybe children will turn off their TVs, computers, and phones and look out their windows and up to the night sky and search for you in wonder, awe, and anticipation…

Continue to bring gifts to children with lasting value such as books that will inspire youthful minds and dolls that will be good listeners when a lonely child needs a friend.

Please continue to do all the good work that you do each year. Do not be discouraged. You are appreciated and needed now more than ever.
Give a hug to Mrs. Santa for me and a “hey!” and thanks to all of your hard working elves.

P.S.
What kind of cookies would you like this year?

Love from your friend,
Debra Di Pietro

Keeping my childhood wonder alive

If I continue to learn new things,

smile more than frown…

If I look for the magic that is everywhere this time of year…

Perhaps I can experience Christmas and every day of the year with the same wonder I had as a young child…

Just perhaps!

I Am Free! A verse…

I am free!

I am free of:

I am free to just be me, and that is the

greatest peace of all!

And let it begin with me.
